Ann's Week 4 of the Weightloss challenge

Week 4's exercise session went so quickly I couldn't believe we had worked out for an hour - just shows you that when you enjoy things the time passes so quickly. The session was a combination of everything we had worked on over the past weeks - cardio, specific areas of the body and use of equipment. I'm not aching so much now so the old body is at last getting use to exercise once again. I am definitely going to carry on with the workout sessions with the group - we are all keen to carry on and the new sessions will give me the momentum to keep going seeing them all again each week.

I'm still eating breakfast and grazing through the day where possible, my intake of water has dramatically increased. I have been using Jackie's food guidance sheets, the recipes are easy and quick, and the sweet/snack ideas have been very usefull - my cupboard now has sugarfree jellies in it - thought they were just for kids parties! But loading them with fresh fruit is making a quick and easy way of taking a healthy option to work for lunch. I haven't bought a loaf of bread in 4 weeks, when I did fancy a slice of toast, I went to the breadbin and forgot that the bread there had been there for 4 weeks and was now looking very furry - a good way of putting you off eating something I shouldn't.

I've not lost as much as I had hoped over 4 weeks, but I will keep going with the same routines, maybe in another 4 weeks I will have made a stone. Maybe its an age thing and its taken longer to shift - well thats my excuse :)

I've had a really fantastic 4 weeks completing this weightloss programme and I do feel better about myself, alot happier and motivated to do things - no longer a couch potato. Jackies is an amazing coach, she makes you feel good about yourself, she encourages and motivates, whilst working you hard, I have to thank her for getting me on the right road to sorting myself out.

Quick note: Bread has never been banned but some of the weightloss challengers decided to continue some parts of the detox week through such as keeping bread, pastas etc to a minimum and avoiding processed, high salt, sugar and fat foods.

Ann's Week 3 of the Weightloss Challenge

Well its now the third week, and when I handed in my measurements on the Monday Night I had lost more inches and 3lbs this week. A much better result, the others seemed to have slowed up a little in their weight loss, so I felt that I had caught up as I had only lost 1lb the week before.

The hours workout this week was very demanding, a real mixture of things, cardio work to get the heart pumping, then alternate lower and upper body excercises. We also worked with different equipment and in pairs, I think we are all starting to gel as a unit, now we are getting to know each other. It was raining and I forgot to bring a towel so I was sliding around on my mat which was a bit of a nuisance., but the hour went quickly and I felt quite exhausted but exhilarated by the end of it.

I have managed the diet much better this week, and have been drinking lots more water and the trips to the loo are frequent. However the exercising has taken abit of a dive this week, usually I have plenty of time to pull in the exercises but I have had something on every night this week, and although I have incorporated walking to the places I have been, most of the activities have not been very energetic - can't really workout at flower arranging, the football match or Newmarket Races.

But this coming week my social life is back to normal and I will be able to get back to plenty of exercise and good eating. I am determined that everything I have learnt will be carried forward as a regular part of my life, even though I may have times when its impossible to do it everyday as I would like.

Its my measurement and weight update later tonight so I can't wait to see how this weeks been - watch this space.

Emmas moving into Week3 Weightloss Challenge Update

Week 3 - loved the workout and came away feeling really positive. I haven't felt this good in a long time (years) and Im loving it. Eating so much better and moving around so much more - take my bike rather than the car!!

Julie Mills Weightloss Challenge Week2

I have built up to 30 minutes on cross trainer without too much difficulty this week. Diet is not as strict as detox week but golden rules still apply and healthy eating a must! It has definitely been easier than first week as cravings have stopped and I am getting into new habits. Jackie emailed us over a list of recipes to try along with visual exercises that we had covered at Ferry Meadows on the Monday to incorporate into our home workout which was great as I couldn't remember all of them. She also sent us an email showing how much we had lost as a group which was an inspiration!

Week 3 - 12th July 2010
Weighed in at 9 stone 12 so loss this week is sadly minimal (1 pound) and no inchloss. A little disappointed as exercised hard last week and was very good with diet (with the exception of a couple of Pimms on Sunday) however a loss is a loss! I can't believe its been 2 weeks already, I am finding the healthy eating much easier than I thought. Monday was bootcamp week at Ferry Meadows and Jackie worked us hard focusing on alternate upper body then lower body exercises. It was really good fun and I came away feeling much more energised than when I arrived. This is definitely my favourite part meeting up with everyone and getting to work outdoors. Generally everyones weightloss slowed down this week but everyone still really enjoying the challenge and still focussed.

Meet Laura one of the Weightloss Challengers

Week one
I had decided to see if I could join Jackie's weightloss challenge to kick
start me to lose some weight for my holiday. I had given up on the gym some
months before because apart from the social aspect I wasnt really getting
anything out of it.
On the first Monday I was nervous but met some really lovely people and had
a great time having an hours workout at Ferry Meadows. Jackie was very
inspirational and I left feeling very motivated for the week ahead.
The thing I found hardest that first week was trying to eat before 7pm as I
dont normally get in from work in time to have eaten by then, so I just made
sure my portions in the evening were smaller than before.

Week two
Its been a great first week and I managed to lose 5 pounds! Another fun and
energising workout at Ferry Meadows and I went away with some more recipes
and exercises for the week. Have found this week harder to fit in the
exercise but my meals have been getting more interesting and instead of just
sticking to salads I have tried stir frys. I have replaced chocolate with
fruit and im not even missing crisps.

Emmas Week 2 Update

I always read the local magazines and was excited to read about Jackie's workout challenge - I am 43 and very overweight and know that if I dont do something about my health now I will find it harder as I get older - I was so excited when Jackie emailed me to tell me I was one of her 10.

I went to the first meet on Monday a little nervous and unsure - but was very soon put at ease by Jackie and her very friendly approach - the work out was good she split us into 2 groups and offered us alternatives for how hard we wanted to work. but still encouraging and pushing you to work that little harder.

I found the nutrition information very helpful and have put a lot of this into practice and I am still enjoying my food and believe that I will definitely keep these changes up.

Going into week 2 feeling very positive - I felt I struggled a little to begin with but soon got into the swing of things again I do enjoy the group workout and find it difficult sometimes to push myself when home alone.

Felt a little disappointed this week as only lost 1lb but overall since contacting Jackie in 4 weeks have so far lost 1stone 4lbs so still feeling positive.

Meet Ashleigh one of the Weightloss Challengers

I am finding the fitness training with Jackie challenging and refreshing. On the approach to it in the first week I was anxious to see how the group work outs would pan out but as the session took place I found myself feeling at ease through Jackie's friendly persona and step by step guide of exercises. I appreciated the difference in work outs in both week 1 and 2 as I find it encouraging to learn different techniques of exercise. The recipes Jackie supplied for us were helpful as they made my new diet more exciting and many of them were designed for ease. Which is what you need after a day at work!

So far I am enjoying the training with Jackie and only hope that I can sustain the enthusiasm she brings when I endeavour to continue my fitness after the 4 week course.

Meet Ann One of the Weightloss Challengers

I always read the local magazines for interesting articles and events that are happening where I live, and noticed the article about the 4 week weightloss challenge. I used to be fairly active until a few years ago, but started to be a bit of a couch potato, my weight was creeping up and I wasn't happy with my appearance and had little self confidence, or motivation to do anything living on my own. I was becoming a hedgehog - not wanting to go out socially and not making the effort to do much at all. I thought this challenge could be my chance to pull myself together and work with like minded people to get fit again and lose some weight.

So I thought I've nothing to lose and dropped Jackie an email asking if I could be considered as one of the 10.

I was so surprised to get an email saying I had been chosen - that alone gave me a big boost to my self confidence thinking I had been chosen from so many applicants.

It was quite daunting the first week, I pulled up into the car park and saw a very slender woman sitting on the picnic bench - thinking this must be Jackie, and then as I approached, the other women emerged from their cars.

I wondered whether I would be able to keep up with the others fitness wise, but I managed and although we were told to go at our own pace if we found it too demanding, I felt able to try all of the exercises without pulling any muscles or hurting myself and kept pace with the rest of the group. I really enjoyed the first weeks traing session, and felt on a real high when I went home afterwards. I didn't sleep very well that night, my legs just seemed very restless, and the worse was to come - Wednesday morning I could hardly sit up to get out of bed - which just proved that those exercises where doing wonders for my stomach muscles.

I started to do more exercises at home, cycling to and from work and in the evenings. In addition to the motivation to take more exercise I was also starting to eat more - surprisingly enough I wasn't grazing enough or drinking enough water. Its been difficult to change to this eating habit, especially in the first week and I only managed to lose 1lb which compared to the others was disappointing, but I have been better this week.

I found the second weeks workout session just as enjoyable and challenging as the first, the grass was dry and itchy so I must remember to take a mat next week. A lot of the workout was in pairs which I enjoyed, but will not be able to do at home as I live alone, but I now have an email from Jackie showing all the individual exercises, so I can happily do these at home by myself. One good thing this week I haven't ached much at all, so my body must be getting used to the exercise again. I'm feeling much more cheerful in myself, and I know its as a result of this challenge, and thanks to Jackie. She's a great coach and motivator.

Work has been very stressful today and the good practice I have been putting in all week has fallen apart - with one bottle of water untouched on my desk and the rice cake uneaten as a snack - however

this weeks challenge of looking at the food portions on my plate was sorted when I got home, with half a plate of cauli & broccoli, a quarter of the plate - a piece of chicken, and a spoon of gravy as my other quarter. Hopefully tomorrow I will be back to my regime again.

4 Week Weightloss Challenge Week 2

37 ½lbs and 48 inches We rocked week 1!!!

Well what a start to week 2!! We all sat down and discussed what they found hard and easy over the past week. The two most common things that they found hard were finding alternatives for heavy pasta and bread meals late in the evening and the other was what else is there to snack on other than fruit?!?! The good news is the things they enjoyed the most was the different foods they did try and the exercise.

Before we cracked on with the workout the challengers continued to wow me with all their weight and inch loss. The blood, sweat and tears and 100% paid off and as you can imagine the positive energy in the group was high which was good because this week was all about body weight training he he heeee.

After the 1hr session I set weeks 2’s workouts, homework and nutrition challenges. Every week the challengers receive a new pack that contains tasty treats, workout progressions and strategies so that everyone can implement all these changes long term rather than just creating a quick fix!! I am a strong believer that if you want to make a real change you will change, if you want to keep going around in circles you will keep repeating the same things. The challenge is set up so the information that is given can be applied any time and any place.

The challengers bloggs for week 2 are on there way so if you want to leave any messages of support please do so. AND if you want to be part of the next weightloss challenge starting in mid august please contact me on jackiediss@hotmail.com

4 Week Weightloss Challenge Week 1

It’s Monday the 28th of June and as of 7pm tonight it will be the official start of LIFE Magazines 4 Week Weightloss Challenge. The challenge for me started over four weeks as I found myself sat reading through all the applications for the challenge. The Decision was so hard to make but after a week the final ten were chosen and the response of excitement from the congratulation emails was fantastic!

So back to today which is the first day of the challenge emails have been sent, venue, time and meeting point set and I’m now sat waiting to meet all the challengers ………….

After the first session…………….
Well I have to say every single lady worked incredibly hard! The energy and enthusiasm to start something new and make some big changes is fantastic. For my ten challengers their week doesn’t stop they now have workouts, homework and nutrition challenges to take on. Now I am a lady of the real world and I know in an ideal situation you would be able to solely focus on training and nutrition BUT in the real world we get to concentrate on everything but. So everything I set is time adaptable as I know every day life is busy with work and family. The good news is when it comes to nutrition and cooking I am very much like Jamie Oliver in the fact I like it one pot, simple, easy and tasty!

So lets see what some of the ladies had to say

A little note from Emma
Started Monday not as bad as I thought it was going to be and feeling really positive about the next month.
Not eating bread this week = has been a challenge but one that's not as hard to overcome as you would imagine.

Meet Julie ……….. Week 1 - 28th June 2010
First day of SummerWeightloss challenge and I weighed in at 10 stone 3. I am aiming to get down to at least 9 stone 7 during the 4 week challenge. 7pm I set off for Ferry Meadows for group workout feeling very nervous about what awaited me but my nerves soon disappeared. I met Jackie and the other 9 readers who were all really nice and all female! It was a beautiful sunny evening and Jackie had us running up and down, doing lunges (lots of), abdominals and other exercises. My thighs felt like jelly after first 10 minutes! What a great evening it was though and great feeling exercising out in the fresh air. I left an hour and a half later feeling much more energised, much less sluggish and really looking forward to the next 4 weeks. Went to bed feeling very hungry though. Jackie put us on detox for first week with list of forbidden foods and golden rules. She also has given us what exercise we need to be doing over the first week - I seriously need to go shopping for some healthy foods!

Detox was very hard, I've never eaten so healthy and my body is craving sugar. My biggest difficulty has been to give up lattes and replace with drinking around 2 litres of water a day and the second hardest is cutting heavy processed carbs out of my evening meal - there is only so much salad and veg I can take. My cross trainer has come out of retirement and I've had to find somewhere else to hang my clothes! My biggest weakness has been weighing myself daily! By Thursday I had not lost a single pound and was thinking how can this be!! (I like to see immediate results!) I am sure that is is water retention as I know I was dehydrated before I started challenge.

Week 2 - 5th July 2010

I have weighed in at 9 stone 13 that’s a loss of 4 pounds and generally lost half an inch around thighs calf and hips! I am really pleased all the effort has been worth it and feeling more incentivised as one third of my way towards my final goal. Second session down Ferry Meadows was really good and we were really lucky with the weather again. It was also great to hear about how everyone was getting on and how many pounds we had all lost. Everyone really positive and had a really good workout incorporating some of the exercises we will be doing at home this week.

Week 2 Coming Soon
